WHO WE ARE
The Day Surgery Nurses Association Inc. NSW (DSNA) formerly Day Surgery Nurses Interest Group NSW was formed in August 1992. In February 1995, the Interest Group became DSNA to represent the interests of staff who work in all areas of Day Surgery and to represent all employees in the Day Surgery field.
An Inaugural State Conference was successfully held in July 1995 which saw the Association's membership rise dramatically and resulted in discussions with other day surgery groups in Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia to form a National Association.
In November 1996, the Australian Day Surgery Nurses Association (ADSNA) was formally established. As a member of ADSNA, DSNA is an affiliated member of the International Association for Ambulatory Surgery (IAAS) which promotes the development and growth of high quality day surgery globally and encourages the international exchange of ideas and stimulates programs of education, research and audit.
DSNA promotes and facilitates education events in NSW hosted in various day surgery units and hospitals throughout the year including a Regional Study Day and an Annual State Conference and General Meeting in August. These events provide the opportunity for discussions, exchange of information and ideas that provide a springboard to problem solving and to further increase awareness of current practice, new techniques, innovations and technology. Attendees are awarded between 2 to 6.5 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours to assist in achieving Annual Professional Registration requirements.
DSNA membership continues to grow yearly and currently serve over 350 members.
